When I started my journey of building a business from home, it never occurred to me that I might need help. I was confident that I could learn what I needed to know about business on my own. Well, it didn’t take long for me to discover that working at home from my computer can be pretty lonely. I was frequently discouraged and unsure of what direction I should go in. I felt lost. I desperately wanted to talk with someone who had been successful in internet marketing and learn exactly how they achieved their success! I needed clarity and direction.
It wasn’t until I joined Coaching Cognition, a training program for coaches, that I began meeting other marketers at many different levels of experience who were committed to helping each other achieve their goals. I joined Coaching Cognition because I was beginning to realize how important it is to develop relationship skills and help others, but also because I wanted to be coached! Now that I have experienced the power of coaching firsthand, I believe that coaching is an important part of successfully starting and running a business. For work-at-home moms, coaching can be a lifesaver! Let’s talk about what coaching is, how it can help YOU as a work-at-home mom, and how to find the right coach.
So, what exactly is coaching?
Coaching is a partnership between a coach and client where the client is the expert and the coach is a supportive guide.
The coach’s role is to create a safe environment where the client can discover and achieve their goals through thought provoking questions and guided discussion. A successful coach actively listens to the client in order to interpret underlying emotions, provides support for the client in their self-discovery and decisions, asks questions that encourage the client to discover solutions within themselves, and holds the client accountable for achieving their self-determined goals.
The client’s role is to come to each coaching session willing to work and ready to learn and grow, with the understanding that the responsibility for achieving results lies with them. The client does his best to be honest and transparent so that the coach may better help him. The client understands that in order to achieve success, it is his responsibility to do the work, not the coach’s.
Benefits of Coaching for Work-at-Home Moms
As work-at-home moms, it is easy to isolate ourselves behind our computers and feel like we have to do it all alone. You don’t need to feel this way – one solution is to find a coach that will nurture, support, and help YOU achieve your goals in your life and business! What are your goals? If you don’t know, a coach can help you define them. Once you discover them, your coach will be there to keep you accountable for the steps taken to achieve those goals. Remember, the client (you), are the expert, you have everything in you needed for success, but a good coach will help you recognize that potential and bring it to the surface.
Finding the Right Coach
So, where do you find a coach? If you are a member of Renegade Professional, you have access to the Coaching Cognition coaches. Just click on Coaches on the main menu in your back office to learn more about them.
You may have a specific area that you feel like you need to be coached in. Many times, coaches have one or several areas they specialize in. If you know exactly where you are weak, then you can find a coach that will be able to help you in that particular area.
Another place to look for a coach is the member directory at the International Coach Federation website.
As work-at-home moms, we need to know that we are not alone! Working with an experienced coach can be an invaluable experience – an experience that will most likely change your business and even your life! If you are struggling to find direction and purpose, then coaching may be for you. I am currently training to become a certified coach with Coaching Cognition.
